Making Money Now

Bump, the application maker known for its mobile device contact and photo exchange technology, has just released an update to its iOS applications — iPhone, iPod touch, iPad — that supports user-to-user music sharing.

In version 2.2, Bump [iTunes link] users can select songs from their iTunes collection to share with friends via the classic Bump gesture. Music recipients can then listen to the full tracks, as streamed from YouTubeclass="blippr-nobr">YouTube, or preview and buy them on iTunes.

Co-founder and CEO David Lieb believes music sharing and Bump are perfect companions. “We think Bump is the simplest and easiest way to tell your friends about songs and artists you love,” he says.

Bump is making an educated bet that music sharing will follow in the footsteps of photo sharing, which is now the most popular feature of its applications “with more than a million photos shared every weekend,” according to Lieb.

Bump already supports contact, calendar event and photo exchange, and also enables users to become fast friends on class='blippr-nobr'>Facebookclass="blippr-nobr">Facebook, class='blippr-nobr'>Twitterclass="blippr-nobr">Twitter and class='blippr-nobr'>LinkedInclass="blippr-nobr">LinkedIn simply by bumping phones together. The startup also makes available an API to third-party application developers. PayPal, for instance, recently upgraded its mobile applications to allow for money transfers via Bump.

Every time I listen to NJ Chris Christie I want to stand up and salute. Today is no different.

Please watch this 4 minute video where Chris Christie blasts LeRoy Seitz, Superintendent of Schools for the Parsippany School District about Seitz's threat to leave the state if his salary is reduced to $175,000.

NorthJersey.com has more details in Governor sets sights on Seitz contract

Last week the Parsippany-Troy Hills Board of Education voted 6-2 to renew Superintendent LeRoy Seitz's contract, which included a 2 percent per year salary increase.

What made the contract noteworthy, aside from the dozens of people that spoke out against it and the tongue lashing the Board and the Superintendent received from Gov. Chris Christie was that the contract Seitz is currently working under doesn't expire until July 1, 2011.

The Board began contract negotiations during the summer, at about the same time the Christie administration released information about a plan to cap chief administrator's salaries and tying the numbers to the enrollment in the district.

By finalizing the contract now the Board effectively agreed to give Seitz a salary well above the governor's proposed cap for almost five years.

At the Board meeting Mark Tabakin, the Board attorney, told the gathering of about 90 people that the cap is still in the proposal form, that the contract was approved by the County Executive Superintendent Kathleen Serafino and that it is a legal action. "People are upset," he acknowledged, "but it's up to the will of the Board."

The controversial contract drew township residents and protesters from as far away as Clifton and Hackettstown, who were outraged over the Board's end run around the proposed cap.

At times the dissenters were so vocal Board President Anthony Mancuso, who remained calm and in control throughout the proceedings, had to call for a 10-minute recess to let the outbursts subside. The police were also called during one of the breaks though they never had the need to take action.

When the public was allowed to speak the floodgates opened. Taking a sarcastic tact the first speaker Roman Hoshovsky said, "How can anyone be expected to live on $200,000?" Then he produced an empty canister and proposed using it as a collection jar in businesses around town to raise money for Seitz.

Barbara Hackling pointed out the Board had laid off teachers and refused to negotiate with the paraprofessionals, "but found money for him."

Karen Blunt, a 36-year Parsippany resident and a paraprofessional in the district said, "He is looking out for his future. I haven't had a raise in 4 years who is looking out for my future?"

The day before the meeting Seitz is quoted in the Daily Record as saying, "Because of the proposed salary caps, I have to look at my future and the financial welfare of my family. I certainly would have options if I didn't feel the compensation in this district, or New Jersey, is appropriate."

The governor reacted to Seitz's veiled threats to leave New Jersey and go to a nearby state where there is no state salary. "I will say in response to Mr. Seitz, 'Let me help you pack.' We have real problems in our state that we have to fix and we don't have the time, nor the money, nor the patience any longer for people who put themselves before our citizens," Christie railed.
I Applaud LeRoy Seitz

A tip of the hat goes to LeRoy Seitz for being such an arrogant SOB that that the meeting to discuss the new contract overflowed with citizens fed up with school board greed.

It is not easy standing up to thugs who want nothing more but to raise your taxes. But the voters did. That's how riled up they were.

I recommend voters in the Parsippany School District send a message to the ignoramuses who agreed to give LeRoy Seitz a new contract. Vote them off the school board.

Fortunately it takes approval from another level to agree to that raise, so the raise is not a done deal yet.

New Jersey taxpayers are fed up, and rightfully so. If LeRoy Seitz thinks he can get $212,000 elsewhere, more power to him. The same holds true for every public "servant". If you can get more in the private sector, shut up and do it.

Money Making Secrets

I see you can't read between the lines. Typical of the left.

Lets start with this:

Get the feeling you focused too much on witches and boogy men races that were out of reach and not on the races that matter?

The mind trick worked all to well on the left. From the POTUS on down to the sycophants in the loyal lapdog media to this lowly forum. We ran a noise maker in DE for a "safe" dem seat and you spent political capital and energy mainly to expose the "nut" but left more deserving candidates laying by the wayside in tight races. Hollywood could not have scripted your demise in less than two short years any better than it played out.

Maybe I should have put that statement first...that would help you wrap your noodle around the rest better. I do so want to see the blame game tonight. Who gets thrown under the bus? Barry. Doubt it. He deserves it though. I'll be watching PBS because they're not as good at hiding their disappointment and you get a real "feel" for how the opposition thinks.

But hey. Be proud. Be loud. After all, you're a democrat. It's suited you so well these last two years!
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, a 501(c)6 business association that isnt required to disclose its donors, ranks as the top outside-spending group that is not a party committee, such as the Democratic National Committee or Republican National Committee. The Chamber has spent $35 million this election cycle on electioneering communications, targeted broadcast messages that include a visual or audio reference to federal candidates but dont expressly advocate for or against those candidates.

Making money with your digital camera isn't the easiest thing to do. Everybody wants to go pro these days, but most don't have what it takes. Just having a new digital camera and an idea about framing isn't going to be enough. You need to be cut from a certain kind of cloth.

The question is this: are you cut out for it?

Even though being a professional photographer is hard, it isn't impossible. Besides, anything worth having is worth busting your hump for.

But you don't want to chase your dream like an idiot, wasting time on things that don't bring you closer to your goal. You want to stick to principles that have worked for others in the past that wanted what you want now.

But outlining all of those principles would take more than one article. So consider this a primer, something to get you walking down the right road. Really, it's more of a brain dump: applicable ideas you can use to go from amateur with a camera to pro making money from their craft:

1. Taking pictures should be as natural to you as blinking. Start taking pictures all of the time. This is how you capture those truly unique and valuable moments.

2. Learn to feel out the situations around you. You need to be where the action is. Getting your timing down as a photographer takes time, but it's what separates the killers from the wannabes. Get a feel for being in the right place at the right time, with your camera ready and pointed.

3. To play in this game, you have to stay sharp. Not a single day should go by when you aren't taking shots and improving your craft. The minute you take a break is the minute the guy next to you takes your plate. You better be hungrier than that guy if you want to make photography into a career.

4. Use forums online and live events to network and start building relationships. Just like any other venture in life, it's all about who you know. The more folks that know you and what your work is all about, the better chance of landing paying gigs.

5. There are websites that will pay you to submit quality photographs for their clients to buy. Some that come to mind include iStock and Associated Content. While the pay isn't extraordinary, it's a start. And everything needs a start.

6. Alternatively, you can leverage the exposure that free websites bring to your photos. Places like Flickr and Photobucket are great for this since they have built in communities. More than one photographer has built up a strong enough following on these kinds of sites to lead to other, more lucrative opportunities.

Bottom line is this: If you have a genuine passion for photography, there is money to be made. Thousands of others no more talented than you have broken the chains of a 9 to 5 to live their dreams. Maybe it's your turn. But it won't be given to you... you have to take it.

web internet marketing

Trouble and trends, they say, come in threes. Today, a trifecta of deals shows how old-school web companies are engaging in a little retail therapy because they must, and because Wall Street has given them the equivalent of a year-end bonus, thanks to an uplift in tech stocks.

  • Amazon is buying Quidsi, the parent of Diapers.com, for $500 million in cash, or roughly 3 times Quidsi’s 2009 sales. Diapers.com is a hit with the mommy set and is on target to generate $300 million in sales for 2010.  Amazon will assume $45 million in debt as well.

  • QuinStreet, an online marketing and lead-generation company is buying CarInsurance.com for $49.7 million in cash and is expanding its footprint in the insurance business. CarInsurance.com, as the name suggests, sells car insurance online and provides leads to automobile insurers.

  • Shutterfly, an online photo service, bought the assets of WMSG Inc., for $6 million and will use these to expand its commercial print-on-demand business. WSMG was in the business of helping deliver direct-marketing campaigns for large companies like Toyota and Dell

Now, while we all like to obsess about what company Google will buy next, the recent wave of M&A shows that it’s actually these old school web companies of a certain age that are looking at a current boom in tech stocks as a way to bolster their businesses. A report from the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA) recently noted that during the third quarter of 2010, there were 104 mergers, a trend they expected to continue. And why not?

Over the past two months, the tech-heavy NASDAQ composite is up almost 500 points or roughly 18.5 percent to over 2800. According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, the tech stocks in the S&P 500 are trading at 13.9 times their forward earnings, versus the average of 12.7 times for the entire index. The current rally in technology stocks is driven by profits and growing sales for companies such as QuinStreet and Amazon.

QuinStreet’s stock is up 60 percent over the past three months, while Amazon has seen its stock jump 40 percent since early September, and Shutterfly shares have climbed over 35 percent since August of this year. Positive earnings are only adding to their coffers, which in turn means they can be used to beef up their businesses.

Conde Nast confirmed today what Keith Kelly had been hearing earlier this month -- that Conde Nast Digital is about to undergo a major re-organization. The digital sales team is being absorbed into Conde Nast Media Group and individual brands will now be responsible for their own digital sales and marketing efforts.

The restructuring is part of new president Bob Sauerberg's broader reorientation of Conde Nast's business model, which is moving away from a long standing reliance on print ad sales and becoming more focused on consumer revenue.

The news comes just one day after Conde Nast announced that its Style.com site was immediately being moved into the company's Fairchild Fashion Group, and that Adobe rather than Conde Nast Digital would develop all of its future tablet offerings.

Here's more about the re-org via press release:

New York, N.Y., October 26, 2010— Condé Nast will realign its sales and marketing organization across the company to focus on brand centricity and drive growth and innovation, it was announced today by Charles H. Townsend, C.E.O.  The Condé Nast Media Group continues its evolution as a leading provider of multi-platform, multi-brand comprehensive offerings as all sales and marketing at the corporate level come together under Lou Cona, Chief Marketing Officer.  Content for the vast majority of magazine web-sites is already managed at the brand level and now the brands will also become responsible for the digital sales and marketing. CN Digital will now focus on developing and implementing the corporate digital growth strategy as well as oversee content and operations for emerging digital businesses.  These structural changes represent a significant step towards realizing the strategic focus announced by the company in July. A transition schedule for the changes will begin immediately and continue throughout 2011.

“This is the next step towards capitalizing on what we see as unparalleled opportunity for Condé Nast to further extend its leadership position, create impactful media offerings for advertisers, and deliver cross platform products that will deepen consumer connectivity,” said Mr. Townsend.

The organizational implications of this realignment are as follows:

In order to promote a more effective go-to-market approach and seamless access to brand assets, the Condé Nast Digital sales and marketing team will join CNMG to form one multi-platform, multi-brand unit.

“Condé Nast Digital brings tremendous power to the portfolio of assets we are able to offer the marketplace,” said Lou Cona, Chief Marketing Officer Condé Nast. “By integrating its sales and marketing expertise into the Media Group, we are positioned for maximum growth and are better aligned with the industry.”

Drew Schutte, currently SVP, Chief Revenue Officer of Condé Nast Digital, will become EVP, Chief Integration Officer for Condé Nast Media Group, serving as the primary liaison between the brand publishers and CNMG, reporting to Mr. Cona.  He will oversee all pricing, planning, and creative marketing in support of the integration of print and digital, single-site brands. Josh Stinchcomb, currently Publisher, Internet Sales Group, will become VP of Digital Sales for Condé Nast, reporting to Mr. Cona and working to integrate digital sales.

Brands Become Responsible for Digital Sales & Marketing
To optimize brand revenue growth, responsibility for single-site, digital sales and marketing-- currently handled by Condé Nast Digital—will migrate to the brand level.  Publishers will now fully leverage their offerings across all platforms.

The increase in the usage of the Internet as both a vital marketing tool and a place for commerce has meant that traditional advertising and marketing firms have had to become more dynamic in their approach to client satisfaction. One website in particular that seems to exemplify this new wave of online marketing firms is Mindcomet, which combines interactive marketing consulting and technology development to create what their website calls “relationship synthesis.” Essentially, Mindcomet’s approach creates a full-circle approach from conception through execution that involves not only marketers and clients, but media consultants and others with different perspectives on what works in internet marketing.

Founded in 1999, Mindcomet is headquartered in Orlando, Florida, with satellite offices in Atlanta, New York City, Los Angeles, and Austin, Texas. Mindcomet offers a full range of e-marketing tools on its website and is constantly developing new tools to fulfill customer needs. On the Mindcomet website, there are offerings to businesses and individuals interested in marketing for traffic generation, online communications, eLearning and web hosting, among other crucial marketing tools. As well, the website offers a great marketing portfolio utilizing all of these tools and a client portfolio that is quite impressive.

The most important aspect of the site, however, is that it is easy to navigate and it is aesthetically pleasing. The image presented by a marketing and consulting firm is much more crucial to success in the e-commerce world than the regular business world because of the sheer amount of competition among web sites. Mindcomet lacks nothing in the navigability of the various tools and resources and both Mindcomet personnel and satisfied customers are featured on the site giving video testimonials to the power of internet marketing. For small businesses looking to move up in their particular market or big businesses looking to distinguish themselves among their competitors, Mindcomet offers the most dynamic internet market consulting at present.
